Pros and Cons of a Marble Tile Bathroom

script>
Do I install marble in my bathroom?

When choosing marble tile for your bathroom you really need to look at all the pros and cons.

1) Marble is a slick surface. Laying marble in wet areas on the floor is never a fantastic idea. When I install marble in wet areas such as bathrooms I tend to try and do a couple of different things. I usually cut the corners of the marble off to inlay some other kind of non slick stone such as slate or tumbled marble.

I try to use smaller pieces like a 6x6 or 4x4 so that there are more grout lines to catch you. Another great option is to use your marble as a boarder or inlay, while using some other type of tile for the field. This way you achieve the look of the tile without the slip and slide effect. This is what I prefer.

2) Cost is a major factor in whether or not you should use marble. Although stone cost can be high still for that perfect color, people like home depot always have a few colors at affordable prices. Always shop around. Also consider the cost of installing the marble. Most tile companies charge more for installing marble.

3) Marble is a really soft stone. If this is a main floor bath and people come in from your garage with rocks in the sole of their shoes, marble is not a great idea. In my opinion marble is best used in boarders, inlays, and walls. While natural stone offers that timeless beauty it will never hold up like other materials.
